CM Punk to leave AEW Rings due to injury

CM Punk Announces Injury, AEW Interim World Champion To Be Crowned

CM Punk announces his injury

Just five days after winning the AEW World Championship at the Double or Nothing pay-per-view in Las Vegas, CM Punk announced that he had an injury that would require surgery.

Punk showed up live on the Friday show "Rampage" to make that announcement.

"When I got here today, I pulled up to the arena and every bone in my body was screaming for me to turn around and go home and hug my wife and Larry [my dog]," Punk began. "And when I say 'every bone in my body,' I mean even broken bones. But my brain told me to stay, and my gut told me that everything here, live, deserves an explanation - and here I am."

CM Punk feels he let his fans down

"Ever since I stepped onto the All Elite Wrestling scene, I've been telling you that I will give you my all until the wheels fall off. I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want to get first?"

Punk continued: "The last thing I ever wanted to feel is that I let any of you down. The last thing I would do is leave you disappointed. So I hope that until now I haven't forced you feel so.

"I love every second I've been in this ring, every time I've been in the ring in front of all of you, it's been a gift I never thought I could experience again."

The bad news that CM Punk is bringing to its fans

Punk said he needed surgery to repair the injury.

"So here's the bad news - I'm injured and in need of surgery. A few things are broken. The biggest one is my heart because I love nothing more than performing for all of you and I wanted to do one hell of a race. That's bad news .

The good news that CM Punk is bringing to its fans

"The good news is I can still do it all. I told you I'll race until the wheels fall off, and the wheels are still there, they haven't fallen off. It's just that one of them was broken. I was coming back from the worst, I felt better than now, but I also want to tell you that I felt much worse."

CM Punk promises to the fans

Punk then called the situation "just a nuisance on the road" and talked about the talented young AEW lineup. He added that he did not want to delay the company and would relinquish the title. Punk concluded by promising to return big, fast, strong and hungry like never before.

Announcement of the title of the AEW

AEW later announced that an interim AEW World Champion would be crowned. There will be a battle royale on Wednesday at Dynamite, the winner of which will take on #1 contender Jon Moxley that evening. The winner of this match will be eligible to compete for the Interim AEW World Championship at the Forbidden Door Tournament on June 26th.

 CM Punk's injury

Although CM Punk did not elaborate on the nature of the injury, he visibly limped during an off-camera segment with MJF earlier this week on 'Dynamite'. It is possible that he was injured during a six-man team match in which Punk and FTR defeated Max Custer and The Gunn Club. He was also missing one of his boots during a backstage photo with FTR.

During a tag team match at the Dynamite show, Punk suffered a leg injury. On the last edition of AEW Rampage, CM Punk stated that he was injured and would need surgery. Punk did not vacate the title.

At the upcoming Dynamite show, the opening match will be a battle royale, the winner of which in the main event will face Jon Moxley in a match for the first contender for the AEW Interim World Championship.

The fight for this title will take place in the main event of the Forbidden Door show. According to insiders, Hiroshi Tanahashi is still listed as a participant in the main event of the show. It was against Tanahashi that Punk had to defend his title.

How long Punk was out of action is unclear.
