Vince McMahon announces his retirement

Just a few minutes ago, WWE Executive Director and majority shareholder of the company Vince McMahon announced on Twitter that he is stepping down from his post and retiring:

- Having reached the age of 77, I realized that it was time to leave the post of Chairman and Executive Director of WWE.

Over the years, it has been my privilege to assist WWE in bringing you joy, inspiration, delight, surprise, and the ultimate entertainment.

Vince McMahon's message

I would like to thank my family for being a huge part of our success, and I would also like to thank all of our Superstars past and present for their dedication and passion. And most importantly, I would like to thank our fans for letting us into your homes every week, giving us your vote in choosing entertainment.

I have the deepest respect and appreciation for the many generations of our fans around the world who have loved, love and sometimes fall in love with our form of sports entertainment.

Vince McMahon hands over management to his daughter, Stephanie McMahon

Our global audience can rest easy knowing that WWE will continue to entertain you with the same zeal, dedication and passion that it always has. I am more than confident in the continued success of WWE and I leave our company in the safe hands of our outstanding team of Superstars, employees and directors - in particular, Chairman and Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon and Co-CEO Nick Hahn.

As a majority shareholder, I will continue to support WWE in every way that is available to me.

I express my personal gratitude to our community and business partners, shareholders and the Board of Directors for their many years of able leadership and support.

Then. Now. Forever and ever. Together
